10 Every Day Rules for Success and Happiness

In nature there is one basic truth. All living things grow and change or they begin to deteriorate and die. Your relationships, your hobbies, your career and your life are no different.

Dont believe it. Just ask yourself where are those friends you had long ago that that you dont have regular contact with?

What ever happened to that hobby you loved to spend time with that some how got set aside and neglected?

Will you really get that next promotion or raise if you just show up every day and keep doing what you are doing now?

So now that you are onboard with the idea, here are ten things you can do every day to help ensure you continue to grow and thrive.

Dream

Begin each day by asking your self what if questions. Dream big, abandon previously held truths for now, you can always apply reality checks later.

Live in the world of possibilities

Former president Ronald Regan had a standing rule in his staff meetings. Staffers were never permitted to say that will not work because. Instead every new idea was approached with the concept This will work if… Challenge yourself to adopt a similar attitude and avid thinking in terms of problems that need to overcome. Instead focus on ways to make your dreams and ideas possible.

Any reason is a good reason to try.

Remember, it is your idea, so go for it. You dont need permission to grow. No explanations or excuses are needed if you desire change.

Perfection will destroy your passion

Experiment with ideas. So what if it isnt perfect. Try things out for a while. Live life moving forward, sure in your belief that some progress is better than none. Look for the simple solution that moves you closer to your goal, not the perfect one.

Oops Happens

Things can and will go wrong. Fix mistakes laugh about them, learn from them and then move on. Acknowledge mistakes, dont hide them or wait to fix them. Make corrections and keep moving.

Take action

Dont wait there is no perfect time to launch an idea. The best way to kill an idea is to delay taking action until the time is right.

Get a vaccination regularly

Barriers and roadblocks to progress are like booster shots for success. By exposing yourself to challenges, you get stronger. In the same way exposing your immune system to small doses of some diseases, challenges inoculate your resolve to succeed.

Drill deep for success

Understand the root cause of difficulties. To get to the source of a problem, always try to ask WHY six times. When you run out of answers to why, you probably have found the point that a small change will have a big impact on future outcomes.

Live like the hunter gatherer you are meant to be.

You dont live alone on this planet, so gather ideas from lots of people. Build on other peoples ideas instead of starting from scratch. Ask for help. Other people really do want you to succeed.

The sun will come up tomorrow

When you reach a goal set another one. There is no end to growth so keep going and keep growing.

Because You Are

Have you ever pondered the concept of eternity, and not only felt that there is something more than this earthly existence, but somehow knew deep in your heart that you are really a part of something great, something more significant and far-reaching than this world we live on? Something Eternal? Ask yourself this question: Why do I feel that I really am important to so many more people than I can consciously see or imagine?

Its because you are.

You are part of a much larger, loving family than you can now realize. You have family members who have died, recently or long ago, who love you deeply and shout encouragement to you through your dreams and thoughts and impressions and impulses to action. Encouragement that leads you to do that which is right. Encouragement to do that which is good.

So many people have been born, have lived their lives through, have loved and been loved, and now watch from a distance as you take your turn.

They may have died, as to this earthly existence, but their essence, their Spirit, still lives on. They wait to greet you, at the proper time, with joy on their faces and with open arms to receive you.

You really are part of an overall plan. An important part. A part where, once you understand and realize, you can be a key figure in helping others to live with happiness and hope, as well.

There is so much more to life than just our mortal existence. We really are celestial beings traveling a mortal existence. At the proper time, we will be welcomed home. We will travel through mortalitys exit door and return home from where we began, greeted once again by those we love and who love us most dearly.

We all have moments of weakness in this life. Moments that cause us to reflect and change our behaviors. Moments that cause us to realize we are off on tangents from the life we were meant to live.

But we can change. We can make retribution, we can correct our present course and go back on the path of happiness.

But we are the ones that must make the corrections. We are the ones who must change.

You see, there really is a God. He is the Father of our Spirits and He loves us and wants us to succeed. Believe in God. Believe that He is and that He created all things, both in Heaven and in Earth. Believe that He has all wisdom, and all power, both in Heaven and Earth. And regardless of whether we believe in Him or not, He still believes in you.

Follow His path and you will find that happy life.

Brief Thoughts on Beginning a New Week and a New Life

Each week, especially Mondays, brings with it a slew of emotions accumulated from all the weeks and Mondays in the past. Mondays are usually greeted, if not with a sense of downright dread, then with a less than enthusiastic attitude and a low-grade anxiety. It’s like going through a briar patch - as you travel through it, more and more burrs from the branches stick to your clothing. As you accumulate more attachments (physical, mental and emotional) as you go through life, the spiritual speed with which you travel decreases and the goals you set for yourself begin to loom loftier and soon appear to be bigger than your ability - and now your desire - to achieve them.

In order to grow inside, often you must shrink the outside, the accumulations and attachments and stuff that wind up cluttering up your mind and soul. The things you possess eventually possess you because you worry about their safety, care and cost and develop anxiety over the possibiity (or expectation, if you’re really paranoid) of losing them. The growth of a person into a fuller, more fulfilled and joyous human being is more a matter of letting go than of adding on. If you can let go of your attachments to past possessions and attitudes you can move forward faster to accomplishing your worthy and worthwhile goals of becoming the person you can be so that you can do what you need to do in order to have what you really need to have - and nothing more. You won’t want anything more because you have all you need because you are the person you’ve always wanted to be. You’ve given up trying to add anything else because you don’t need anything else. You’ve grown so big on the inside that nothing on the outside can add to your growth as a person. The only source of growth from external things for you now is to let them go so they can flow through you to those whose need of them is greater than yours.

This is a great place in which to be, emotionally, spiritually, mentally and physically. What do you need to let go of instead of trying to add more of?

The First Moments of Your Day Set the Stage for Success or Struggle

March 22nd, 2009 at 09:47pm Under Uncategorized

Have you ever noticed how some days you attack your job with passion and others you couldnt care less if you showed up? What causes the different perceptions? Lately, I have come to the firm conclusion that it is the first thoughts you experience as you waken in the morning and how you treat them.

Over my lifetime Ive had to battle a very palpable sense of fear upon waking, and if I didnt eliminate it from my mind before rising it would often follow me throughout my day.

Our perception of what lies ahead during a new day can be adjusted by training ourselves to see the new day, the new tasks or challenges as exciting ways in which we get to express ourselves rather than looking at them with dread.

Inspiration can be created within or you can borrow it from someone else. Many people use others who have overcome difficult situations in life to succeed to inspire them in times of distress. Lance Armstrong is a great example for me since I still race bicycles at 58; he is one of those amazing people that I can call upon for help in my moments of emotional distress.

As you probably already know, Lance overcame testicular cancer, which had spread to his brain and lungs to go on to win the Tour de France an unprecedented seven times. When I see the TV commercials in which he is shown training alone in the mountains on a cold and rainy day, I know the physical pain that he endures. Anyone who trains long distances on bicycles experiences that pain. Yes, some of what he does is fun, but doesnt that apply to your day too?

But, how many of us had to do it after battling cancer for a couple of years? Most of us are very lucky and have never had nor will ever have cancer, but that doesnt mean that we dont have our individual demons to slay. Here is where inspiration is borrowed from others that have won their battles and persevered.

As I awaken each morning, I try to have a good thought right away. I want to establish a positive train of thought which will set me up to be excited about the next 14-18 hours of life. If I open my eyes and have a twinge of fear regarding the challenges that await me, I think of Lance, the pain of rising and pushing his body through eight grueling hours of bicycle training.

We all face similar same things; it is our perceptions that vary. Perceive them well and your day will go well, perceive them poorly and you will strugglethere is no doubt about it.

Make the first moments of your day as positive, full of excitement and expectation as you can and you wont believe the way your day will unfold. People will treat you differently. Your job will go easier than usual. New prospects will reveal themselves, and you will happily whistle your way through the day.

It is said that it takes twenty-one days for humans to establish a new habit, try this idea for that number of days and see if you havent improved your life. If it works for you like it has for me, pass it along and help someone else improve his or her life.

In the end, its one mans opinionmine.

6 Ways To Uplift Your Spirits

Our journey to the lost destination is never a smooth ride to say the least. It could be a bad day at work, an argument with a friend, relationship problems the list goes on. Life smacks us hard when we least expect it. How well equipped are we to handle such incidents?

While we have friends and family to get us through these periods, it requires a fair amount of effort on our part as well. So what can you do ?

#1. Pamper yourself
Have you ever noticed that pampering yourself goes a long way towards making you feel good? For some people, its shopping, working on the car, playing the guitar, taking a long bubble bath, exercising, eating ice cream .. What makes you feel comforted?

#2.Remember good times
When we go through a rough patch, it is the bad memories that keep hunting us. Take a stroll down memory lane (use a photo album if you have to!) and remember the good old days when life was less weary.

#3. Theres no point in asking your self Why
Have you been running round in circles in your mind, wondering why. Why Me, why , oh why. True, its hard not to.

I think only God has the answers to all why questions. In the meantime, you can ask a different question. What did I learn?

#4. Help someone
Happiness is a by product of an effort to make someone else happy.

Helping someone will make you feel needed. Im sure whoever it is, will be appreciative of your effort. It will also help, to keep you occupied.

#5. Remember the less fortunate
A few months ago, I used to visit a neurology ward twice a day, everyday for nearly three weeks. Walking through the beds on either side made me feel very lucky. Mainly because, I was the visitor not the patient! Most of the patients warded, could not walk and/or talk. Additionally, some even had eyesight problems.

Anyway, that was a couple of months back when my father underwent brain surgery. I still think about some patients, which I came to know during that period. I wonder what their fate is, at the moment.

Whenever I feel down, I do my best to recall my time at the ward. It reminds me that there are others, who are in a lot worse position, than I am.

#6 Tough times dont last tough people do
Time heals all wounds is the popular advice. Have you ever felt like slapping anyone who gave this advice? Im sure they all mean well. Somehow, when we have sunk real deep, its difficult to come to terms that one day it will be alright. Even though at the time you dont admit it or even consider the possibility, from life experiences I can say that it is true. I bet if you were to recap your past, you can too! One day at a time takes us to happy land, eventually.

Keep the Holiday Feeling Alive

How do you feel about winter? Are you looking forward to the beautiful colours of autumn and the cosy winter nights in? Or perhaps you wonder why you feel so healthy and relaxed on holiday and so hassled and lethargic at home? If your two weeks in the sun are your favourite two weeks of the year perhaps you could learn how to bring that holiday feeling home?

Why do you feel fabulous on holiday? Think about what you do on holiday. You probably ate freshly prepared food. You may have taken your time to eat and drink your fill. You probably took lots of gentle exercise outside. Time had less meaning as you could get up, eat, and sleep, when you wanted to. You spent time with people you love. It sounds a world away so how can you make your normal life feel more like this?

Life on holiday is simpler, with less crammed in. It isnt structured and is full of simple pleasures. The key to making your normal life more like a holiday is to bring some simple pleasures back home.

Getting a good nights sleep is a simple pleasure that helps us feel so much better. We sleep easier when we allow a few minutes to relax before bed. As you lie in bed remind yourself of any little successes of the day as you drop off. If you find sleep elusive, a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow, or reading a chapter of a book can help you relax.

Many people find their surroundings affect how well they sleep. We sleep well in a cool dark room, so simple steps like turning your radiator down or choosing heavy curtains that block the light out can make a difference. If your pillow or mattress is uncomfortable, then try turning or replacing them. Make your bedroom a haven of tranquillity by removing clutter and anything with an annoying standby light.

We know that sleeping well helps us cope with whatever life throws at us. Well, the same is true of eating well. Our lives are busy but many of us do have time to cook one fresh meal each day. Grilled meats and fish, steamed vegetables, salads, or fresh crusty bread really is quick to prepare and eat. If you have a fridge at work then any leftovers can make a good packed lunch. If this takes too much time then try fresh fruit, seeds or nuts, as a snack, and leave the cooking for the weekend. Eating well helps us feel energetic and helps us fight off minor coughs and colds.

Most of us do not look once at a computer when we take a holiday. Computer screens are hard work for our eyes and mean we sit in the same position for a long time. Naturally wed focus our eyes on objects much further away than our screen. Find a reason; it could be a comfort break, a drink, a meeting, etc. to walk away from your screen for a couple of minutes each hour. Allow you eyes to refocus on objects further away, have a good stretch, and take a couple of deep breaths to clear out any stale air. After all, you dont get headaches from eye strain on holiday!

Whatever your job entails, if you feel healthy and alive on holiday, then take action to keep that feeling going. If youd like to read a free report on how to keep the holiday feeling alive then visit www.crossroadslifecoaching.co.uk/health.htm.

Emotional and Verbal Abuse: Making the Choice to Leave

March 22nd, 2009 at 09:47pm Under Uncategorized

Abuse takes away freedom.

Our souls thrive in freedom.

They die in abuse.

When we allow another person to enter our sacred space and poison us, we slowly die.

If you are a victim of abuse reading this, you deserve more than tolerating life.

I know the shame you feel.

People have asked me why did I stay? I tell them that I was committed to the entity of marriage. I find it interesting how we commit to a label and lose commitment to ourselves.

We cling to the images we see on soap operas and movies. The happily everafter.

We enter marriage on a fairytale. One day we wake up, and wonder what happened to our mind. Your mind was always there. Your commitment was to appearance rather than your soul.

Oprah had a show recently that helped me come up with a good analogy of tolerating an abusive relationship. Oprah confessed that she tolerated her feet being in pain for the sake of cute shoes. I can identify with that. I bet you can too.

Do you have those cute shoes that you can only wear out to dinner? And that’s because you will be sitting down most of the time. We hope so much to break those shoes in. We try and try. What happens? We end up with corns from the friction, but oh arent my shoes cute?

Its similar to abuse in the fact that we stay with the abuser, hoping to break him in. Saying things like ‘When we are married itll get better or Hes just had a bad day.’ Heres the catch. He is not a pair of shoes. Instead of getting a corn on your foot you develop one on your heart.

The build up of having to protect your spirit from insult causes the corn to wall off your feelings.

Bottom Line: We need to truly evaluate what we value in ourselves. Do we value the health of our souls or value the label of marriage for appearance. The choice is yours. You do have a choice.

Remember that you are important in this world and God wants you to live fully and abundantly. You are unique. Be bold and live with power . The person standing in the way is you.

Can You Decide To Be Happy

Many people are living a life of sadness, despair, fear and anger, as if they were living in a basement with a very low ceiling. A cold, damp ceiling of dense concrete, keeping them down. There are no windows in this place, no sunshine coming in, no birds singing, no nightingales, no voices of children playing, no affection, no tenderness. Instead there are tons of misery, illness, sadness, anger, depression, fatigue, anxiety, doubt and low self-esteem.

How can you leave these gloomy quarters? How do you go back to the gentle sunlight? All you need to do is take a few steps up the staircase, and there you are: on the first floor, where theres lots of light, love, abundance, joy, well-being and plenty of sunshine even if its raining outside. All of this is just one floor away! One floor up, in fact.

Why is it so hard to leave the basement, to wake up from this nightmare, and to reach that place where you long to be, when it is just a few steps away? Because they have told you that this murky basement youre living in is all there is, and you have taken their word for it. Who are they ? They are your parents, your teachers, people around you, TV shows you watch, newspapers you read, and so on.

You think this sad life in the basement is reality, and that love and excitement is the stuff that dreams are made of. My dear, you are living an illusion! You are living a huge misunderstanding, for it is exactly the other way around. It is the darkness that is the dream (a nightmare in fact), and Love and Light that is real.

Unfortunately, they never told you that real life is happening just a few steps up. They never told you that you are living in a nightmare. Why didnt they tell you? Are they that sadistic? Didnt they want you to be happy and healthy and abundant? Oh yes, they did! So why didnt they tell you? Because they simply dont know themselves! They too believe, and have believed for their whole life, that the lies they are living are the truth, that the nightmare is real. And so they couldnt have told you anything else than the lies they themselves take for truth.

This handover of misunderstandings and lies has been going on for a very long time, generation after generation. Do you really want to stay under that ceiling, cramped and swamped in darkness and misery? Do you want your children to fall for these lies, living a life of discontent, heaviness and chronic disease? Or do you want to live one step beyond, a few steps up, being showered with love and feeling the sunshine on your face?

How do you get there? Its right there! You will have to stretch yourself a little bit to get there. You will have to take a serious look at your belief system and carefully examine the core beliefs that all of your thoughts are built upon. Then you will need to decide whether you will continue believing the lies they told you, or whether you will abandon those limiting ideas, make up your own mind, and take a shot at living in joy and excitement.

Stretch yourself, step out of your comfort zone. You will have to quit some bad habits and leave behind some of the people you used to hang out with. You can no longer dwell in negative energy vibrations once you have made up your mind that you want to live on a positive vibe.

How can you go one floor up and step back into the light? There are several things you can do! Take a walk in nature, listen to some uplifting music, read an inspiring book, attend workshops to develop your talents, discover your inner truth and your true nature in moments of silence, take your dreams serious and do whatever you can to realize them. Nurture your passions: sing, dance, paint, draw, make love with your loved one, connect with your guardian angel, look into the eyes of a child, play with your pets, make friends with the Universe, have a conversation with God (and with the neighbors), follow your own path, lift your vibration with therapies like Bach Flower Therapy, and so on. In a nutshell : surround yourself with people, objects and activities that have a high energy vibration and that makes your energy flow in your body. There is so much to enjoy!

There is so much you can do to uplift your energy vibration, that there is absolutely no excuse to stay underground. Unless you consciously choose to be loyal to those who tell you there is no fun in life, that this misery is just the way life is, that you have to accept it, and that the basement is the only room in the house. You have a choice to make: or you make it your priority to uplift your energy, or you stay where you are. Its totally up to you! You have the freedom to choose. Since everybody can go upstairs, since access is denied to nobody, there really is no excuse not to go there

You should do every day things that make you feel happy. It won’t happen by itself. Make a list of what makes you feel smiling and what uplifts your energy, and start doing at least some of these things every day! You can, nobody withholds you!

Consider this: the effort needed to go up that staircase is no bigger than the effort needed to stay under that low ceiling, carrying a heavy load on your shoulders. The effort is the same but the results are vastly different! Staying where you are is wallowing in misery and pain. Going upstairs is telling the world you really believe you and everybody else deserve a life filled with light and enthusiasm! Your life is waiting for you! Go up there and get it! Dont wait for it to happen by itself. Stand up, move your body, take action and do what makes you feel better!

Why not go up? The difference is enthusiasm!

From Wuss To Rascal Faith In Action Improves Life: On The Lord Banquet Table Life IS ‘The Feast’

You ~ My Fellow Ezine Articles Authors & Website Operators likely have a lot of good products. I have reduced the number of products that I offer having finally found some that really work. LOL When I say Work, I mean that they are making me some money. One of them ~ The Feast ~ IS restoring my health. LOL

Yeah, it was a real struggle until I finally found some on-line products ~ like The Feast. Info on this one new Winner and DM is available on my websites including Jesus4You.ws. Yes, My God directed DirectMatches to me. LOL Those of you who are looking for another cyber~place to market your own biz products may wish to chect them out?

God Cured me of MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and Incontinence, The Feast IS making me more Healthy, I’ve chosen to be Happy, The Spirit and The Word are making me more wise. Well ~ at least ~ I Am making less stupid mistakes ~ I feel… I thank The Lord, God! As the Scripture says, (CEV) Proverbs 4:26 Know where you are headed, and you will stay on solid ground.

I spent two years stumbling around cyberspace blind and broke. Many of the products that you guys offer on your Biz websites sounded great to me also. I flew their Cute and/or colorful banners on my website and made very little. But, like you guys, I continued to keep pressing on. Finally, The Lord sent me in the right direction. LOL

As such, I feel that this might be a good subject to use for my share of the soon-to-be-published book, 101 Ways To Improve Your Life that I have been invited to co-author, together with EzineArticles’ own Chris Knight and some other Hitters that are much Heavier than I. As it has turned out, this article and I will not be involved in the forthcoming book. Neither my submitted article nor my method of allowing AN AWESOME GOD to continue taking 1st place in my life is the type of way to improve life that the book publishers is looking for. God bless them.

I have had enough significant development%u2019s in my Charmed Life occur since I published this article that - already - I must update it. LOL Yes, God IS Good! I will attempt to make my changes in Emphasized text so as they are conspicuous.
If it doesn’t work ~ I know that Crris’ Good Editors will help me or tell me how :) AND HOW!

God also Cured me of Incurable MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and it was He - I Am -
who took me from a place where a Good day started by not ending up on the floor while attempting to transfer from my sickbed to the handicapped scooter, and then making it to the toilet before messing myself. I wasn’t having very many Good days either. I should mention that Incontinence was a major problem! I was going through over twenty disposable diapers each day.

Well, the Incontinence problem was Cured immediately. I use the word Cured because, when the word Healed is used, even many business people scamper the other way. The scooter I have begun to use again as I was attempting to hurry around (all over the place on foot) and fell down too frequently by rushing my ambulation. I’m walking a little more all of the time now. No rush… Not even to the toilet…LOL

Now - due in all likelihood to I will continue to do even better.

Please take a few moments and visit my website. It took me a little while to find smart people who understood that the Internet IS the way to earn real money now. I Am applying the old SWN Principle: Some Will; Some Won’t; So What; Next! I only offer people information on my products ~ IF THEY WANT IT. Absolutely ~NO SPAM!!!

Now, I’m setting up appointments with Real Estate agents (who I formerly did business with when I was in that business for years) to come over to my place, and look for a mansion for my 16-year-old-daughter and I. We need to move because I’m earning too much money to stay in this government subsidized, disabled housing program, despite the fact I’ve put in an unauthorized 16,000-gallon-fishpond in the backyard. http://milesbooks.com/wb/pages/lol-laugh-out-loud-medicine/rascal-backyard-fish-pond-retreat.php

Oh, I’ve told my two 30-something-year-old-daughters, and my 36-year-old-son, that they should expect their new step-mom to be younger than they are, and that they might even expect to have new brothers and/or sisters too. LOL Yup, my libido has come back. Even if it never really left, the opportunity to practice it sure did. I became a Little Wuss to a caregiver. Now, I’m a Little Rascal to the world.

No matter what others might think, I’m have also become An Apostle too. In fact, I’m God’s playfully mischievous Apostle, Rascal. Chosen ~ Io Shout via ezine articles, books, and any other means to which I am pointed, My Lord’s inspired messages to the world, I Am the published Author of over 100 articles via this Article Bank already.

Yes, this includes helping His elect chosen to find health, wealth, and prosperity. Jesus said, ‘ (NASB) John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. :11 I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. ‘

(CEV) Romans 5:8 But God showed how much he loved us by having Christ die for us, even though we were sinful.

(CEV) Romans 10: 6 But people whose faith makes them acceptable to God will never ask, Who will go up to heaven to bring Christ down? 7 Neither will they ask, Who will go down into the world of the dead to raise him to life? 8 All who are acceptable because of their faith simply say, The message is as near as your mouth or your heart. And this is the same message we preach about faith. 9 So you will be saved, if you honestly say, Jesus is Lord, and if you believe with all your heart that God raised him from death. 10 God will accept you and save you, if you truly believe this and tell it to others. 11 The Scriptures say that no one who has faith will be disappointed, 12 no matter if that person is a Jew or a Gentile. There is only one Lord, and he is generous to everyone who asks for his help. 13 All who call out to the Lord will be saved.

I have proven that the best way to improve our lives is by trusting in whatever god one believes (even if in only ones own self) and then doing what He, She, or It tells us to do, starting today.

God wants us Healthy ~ Wealthy ~ and Happy :) He even wants Us to Laugh…hehehe… HE Does!!! Have faith in your god. Trust you own good judgement! Do NOT feel under ANY obligation to DO anything that DOESNT FEEL RIGHT TO YOU :)

As scripture says, (CEV) James 2:26 Anyone who doesn’t breathe is dead, and faith that doesn’t do anything is just as dead!

I Love You :)

Mindfulness and Signs: Stirring Up Your Own Juju

March 22nd, 2009 at 09:47pm Under Uncategorized

Digg me

I am not one of those people likely to exclaim, It’s a sign! whenever there’s some kind of event that seems to indicate a universal knock-knock.

But that doesn’t mean I don’t notice when those occur. I absolutely do.

I was watching Lost on television the other night (um, Spanish practice? Reading the subtitles works for me!) One character uttered this quote: Don’t confuse coincidence with destiny. Or maybe he said fate–I was busy reading the Spanish.

Anyway, it’s a valid point. And yet, it’s fun to consider that those little moments might actually be part of a master plan–or at least a swirl of cosmic juju all around you.

That’s how I feel about the jacaranda trees here in Buenos Aires.

You see, I have a thing for the color purple. It moves me. It touches me. And I love this line from Alice Walker, author of the book, The Color Purple:

I think it pis*ses God off when we walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it.

I make sure I pay attention to purple.

I have used the color purple as my own mindfulness trigger and taught it to many students looking for their own cue for greater awareness. I even wrote a fun ebook of haiku called Purple Round M based on this concept.

And so, I can’t help but smile when I step outside my door here and see a huge tree absolutely dripping with vibrant purple blossoms. I turn the corner and look down the street–it is lined with more jacarandas, and the parks of nearby Palermo are absolutely aflame with violet.

I smile. I laugh out loud when the jacarandas drop their blooms on my head as I pass underneath. Purple is hitting me on the head, quite literally. I’m in my element.

Oh, sure, there are plenty of other places where the jacarandas grow. There are likely to be other cities in the world with mile after mile of purple street trees.

But that doesn’t matter. What matters is that I am floating in this gorgeous cloud of purple, and I am CHOOSING to see it as a sign that I’m in the right place.

Logical? Maybe not. But sometimes we can find tremendous joy in connections that WE make.

We don’t need to believe in a master plan in order to feel that what we’re doing is right for us. All we need to do is pay attention when a sign–of our own choosing–drops on our heads.

What’s YOUR sign? Learn to notice moments of sensing a flow that is effortless and benevolent. Swim there for a while, and you’ll know exactly what to look for in the juju current around you.

Purple just makes it prettier.
